We are Neill & Iggy. We have been at the helm of Fifth Sense since May 2019 after acquiring the business which had been successfully trading for 5 years.

Neill grew up in Modbury & Iggy is a Londoner. We moved to Modbury in 2018 following Neill’s mother’s terminal cancer diagnosis. The plan was to stay for 12 months & move back to London but the charm & beauty of Modbury won us both over & after 4 months we had put in the offer for the business meaning we were staying!

One month after getting the keys to the shop we got married so 2019 was a pretty full on year for us!

Neill has a wealth of expertise in retail, having managed successful shops in various locations around the UK including in Taunton, Bath & London. He has always loved the idea of running his own shop & is loving the opportunity of doing so in his home town.

Iggy also has retail experience & having worked in a number of pubs & restaurants in London & Cornwall, customer service is something he prides himself on.

After successfully completing our shop renovation (which took longer than expected!) we are currently undergoing a massive renovation project on the rest of the Grade II listed building which is our home. We share our home with our two dogs Cooper & Toffee & our two cats Midnight & Chloe.

In February 2020, we launched the South West's first & only Bathroom Deli. We offer all your essential bathroom products, but try our best to make them plastic free, vegan friendly & eco friendly. We have had a great reception to the concept & since January of 2021 we have launched our own brand range of both bathroom products & candles.

We are currently in the early stages of developing a more special range of bathroom products including body butter bars & natural deodorants. Keep an eye out on our social media platforms for details about this, including a release date.

In August 2021, we launched our own brand of Artisan Loose Teas. Our family are great tea drinkers & we realised that Modbury has a great selection of coffees available in all forms, but not a selection of great teas, so we decided to introduce our own!

The COVID restrictions over the last two years have really made us step back & look at the business, so if you haven’t visited us for a while you will notice a change in not only the look of the shop but in the selection of items we stock. We have decided to slim down the ranges that we sell which means we can give more shelf space to the items that our customers love.

We are honoured to work with some awesome local brands & are privileged to be the flagship stockist of The Mewstone Candle Company. Carys & Deb are great friends of ours & their products are, we think, the best on the market in terms of quality & price. As their flagship stockist, we are able to get a first look at new products. Also, we have products that are available exclusively to us, such as the epic Fresh Cut Grass scent.

We have been overwhelmed by the response to our new look shop & the new direction of our business. We are thankful to our local community for their generous support over the difficult times brought on by the pandemic.

We will continue to bring new products to our little shop in the future. We like to source locally if possible. Where it is not possible to get items locally or in the UK, we will source items fair trade & always do our best to ensure that the companies we deal with have a similar ethos to us.
